Call to Fiber Artists!
The San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles is hosting its 3rd Annual High Fiber Under Five art sale this November 4-6, 2010.
Submissions of all kinds are welcome--basketry, jewelry, knitting, sculpture, quilts, wearable art, tapestries, and mixed media pieces where fiber plays a prominent role.
Artists are invited to submit 3 to 10 artworks that can be offered for sale at $500. or less each. Half of the retail sales price will go to the artist, and half supports the Museum's fiber art advocacy efforts. Of course, Artists also have the option of donating their work to this benefit art sale. But in the spirit of respecting the work that you invest in the art you create, they aren't asking that artists donate anything....so it's a very flexible option there.
Almost 600 people attended last year's event, which generated $14,576. in sales for 50 pieces sold by participating artists. One Purchase Award sponsor enabled the Musuem to acquire a work by Linda Gass for its permanent colleciton. They will again be soliciting High Fiber Under Five sponsors so they can continue this tradition of Curator Deborah Corsini selecting exceptional artworks to feature as "Curator Picks" from which sponsors select the artwork they want to purchase for the collection.
This event builds on the immense popularity of San Jose's monthly gallery crawls that bring anwhere from 400 to 1200 Silicon Valley residents out to view art on the First Friday of each month.
