Meeting Vermont Members!

This is a photo of Charlotte, VT member, Mary Jane Russell (on right), and myself at a recent gallery opening. We're standing in front of her piece, entitled "Fearless".

To see more photos of Mary Jane's work, please visit her facebook page.

Mary Jane approaches art quilting as an exploration of abstract designs, using dye and paint, silk-screening and other printing techniques, digital photography and image transfers to interpret designs found everywhere, from rock cliffs and stone walls, to cracks in the sidewalk and city skylines.

We were happy to be included in the "Forever Fiber/ A Gathering of Fiber Artists" show at Creative Space Gallery in Vergennes, VT, which runs until Saturday, November 13, 2010.

The show also features amazing work by Tammara Wight, who is a basket weaver for over 25 years, currently she weaves these organic, sculptural basket forms, incorporating and responding to found materials and to her experiences of the natural world.

Another artist in the show, Martha Loving, creates richly textured, evocative pieces filled with memory and symbolism by weaving painted and printed paper with fragments of photographs, ribbons, and other found materials.

Also exhibiting are Marsha Chase of Panton, and Deb Allen of Ferrisburgh. These artists are finding no boundaries to the art of felt making...they manipulate wool, silk, and other fibers to create two- or three-dimensional forms. The result can be an abstract sculpture, a landscape painting, or wearable art: one-of-a-kind scarves, jackets, and handbags.

Creative Space Gallery has a beautiful exhibit space in a great location of town. To see more images of the Creative Space fiber show, visit Mary Jane's blog

The gallery also features paintings, photographs, prints, hand-blown glass, and jewelry by member and guest artists. Creative Space Gallery, located at 235 Main Street, Vergennes is free and open to the public Thursdays, 4-7 pm., Fridays 2-7 pm, and Saturdays noon-6 pm, or you can call 802 877-3850 (24 hours in advance), and one of the gallery artists will be happy to meet you there.
