The Art of Tapestry

The Art of Tapestry exhibit features the work of award-winning designer/weaver Elinor Steele, who combines a strong sense of color and composition with meticulous craftsmanship to create her contemporary hand-woven tapestries. You can view her works at the Jackson Gallery at Town Hall Theater in Middlebury until February 26.

Exhibiting nationally for over 30 years, she has been commissioned to create numerous works for corporate, healthcare, and residential settings.

This exhibit features examples from several of her series, including abstract and impressionistic images, landscapes, and geometric compositions, along with information on the art and history of tapestry making.

The Gallery is located on the lower level of Town Hall Theater on Merchants Row, Middlebury. All exhibits are free and open to the public.

Art of the Chair

Randolph member Janet Cathay has her work on exhibit in a group show entitled:

Art of the Chair: Process and Possibility

Presented by the Chandler Gallery in Randolph, the subject of the exhibit is the chair. The focus is process, history, personalization, and personification beyond the limits of sitting. Works include two and three-dimensional pieces in a variety of styles bringing twenty artists together from all corners of Vermont.

The show runs through March 6, 2012.

Gallery Artists' Talk: Saturday, February 18 from 1 – 3 p.m. Admission is by donation.

Vermont Artists Week was created in 1984 to support Vermont’s artists and writers with an intensive week of studio work and fellowship with other Vermont artists. The Vermont Studio Center is grateful to all those who've made Vermont Artists Week possible, and would like to extend special thanks to the Vermont Community Foundation's Arts Endowment Fund, Peter and Bari Dreissigacker, and the Studio Center alumni.

Member work featured in US Embassy

JoAnne Russo of Saxtons River, VT, has two of her pieces included an Exhibit at the US Embassy in Kigali, Rwanda, Africa, as part of the ART in Embassies program.

HGA’s Annual Exhibit of Small Scale Works

Exhibit: May 10 - August 12, 2012, to be held at the Long Beach Museum of Art in Long Beach, California

Small Expressions is an annual, international, juried exhibit featuring high quality, contemporary small-scale works. Small Expressions is sponsored by the Handweavers Guild of America, Inc., to showcase small scale works created using fiber techniques in any media, not to exceed 15 inches (38 cm) in any direction including mounting, framing or display devices.

Juror: Carol Shaw-Sutton

Carol Shaw-Sutton is an artist and Chair of the Fiber Program at California State University, Long Beach where she was recently nominated Outstanding Professor of the Year, 2011. Awards include two Individual Artist Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Fine Art Award from the International Textile Biennale in Kyoto, Japan, and both the US/Japan and US/France Foundations Fellowship Awards. She was recently named an American Craft Council Fellow. Her work has been exhibited throughout the US, Europe, including Lausanne Biennales, and Asia.
