Spend A Day with SDA

Dear SDA members from the Northeastern US and Eastern Canada,
We have a special day planned for SDA members on October 27, 10:30am-5pm at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton MA. We hope you will join your fellow SDA members from nearby states for a day of stimulating fiber related events. Astrid Bennett, SDA President, and other board members will be joining us for the day, along with members of the Fuller’s curatorial staff. We are limiting this event to 100 participants, so please reply soon to secure your spot. See below for registration details.
Our morning will be devoted to small group activities designed to help us get to know each other, offering opportunities to share our artistic passion and our actual work. The sharing and networking will continue as we enjoy our brown bag lunches with our new SDA acquaintances.
After lunch we will have a chance to view the museum, which is the only museum devoted to contemporary craft in New England. The museum has multiple well-designed exhibition spaces and is known for its beautiful and cutting-edge exhibits. Seeing the exhibits at the Fuller is always a revelation and a treat!
Next up is a highlight of the day. Stuart Kestenbaum will address the connection between craft and the written word in a talk entitled “Words Matter.” Stu, who is currently the Poet Laureate of Maine, is the former long-term director of the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. In addition to his prominence in our field, Stu is beloved for his warmth, passion, intelligence and humor. It is an honor and a thrill to have him as our speaker!
To cap off the day, everyone is invited to the Fuller’s opening reception for the showContext: Language, Media, and Meaning from the Surface Design Association. This show, juried by Bruce Hoffman, includes work by MA, RI and CT SDA members who have incorporated written language into their textile inspired artwork.
Spend a Day with SDA, is sponsored by SDA Central, and both the CT and MA/RI chapters of SDA. Registration is now open on the Events section of  the SDA website and is open to all SDA members. The modest fee of  $30 (CT, MA, RI members and those who attend regional meetings in those states, with $40 for all other SDA members) covers morning networking activities, Fuller Craft Museum admission, tour, Stuart Kestenbaum’s presentation, and Context exhibition reception with refreshments. Once you have registered, you will receive an email in early October with further details. For more information, contact Ellen Schiffman.
We invite you to spend a day of inspiration, fun and beauty with people who share a passion for fiber art. Be part of this vibrant, growing community right here in our backyard.
Best wishes,
Astrid Bennett,  SDA President
Ellen Schiffman CT SDA Area Representative
Nancy Crasco MA/RI Area Representative
Adrienne Sloane MA/RI Area Representative
