Changes are afoot as we head into the new year.
After four years as SDA Area Representative for Vermont, Suzanne Loker is passing the baton to Roz Daniels and Eve Jacobs-Carnahan, who will serve as our new Vermont co-reps.
As liaison between the National organization and Vermont, Suzanne's upbeat emails were filled with news of surface design exhibits and other important information, and were always a delight to read. Roz and Eve are ready to dive into their new roles with the goal of building on Suzanne's (and previous state rep, Karen Henderson's) hard work. They are looking to create new ways for SDA members to interact with each other, and are currently planning a field trip to a fiber art exhibit and studio in Brattleboro this spring.
Stay tuned for updates and don't forget to keep your SDA membership current in order to participate in any upcoming activities.
HAND/EYE Magazine, whose mission is "World. Craft. Culture.", is the world's only journal dedicated to global creativity. It focuses on the work of artists, artisans, designers, and other creatives, unfettered by traditional definitions of art, craft, and design. HAND/EYE is a not-for-profit agency which, in addition to publishing online and in print, also works to support artisans with grants and with business development programs.
Recently, two of our Vermont SDA members published articles about their practices in HAND/EYE. Click the following links to read
Karen Henderson's article "Fleeting Moments" and
Elizabeth Fram's article "Paying Attention".
Elizabeth Fram's work has been selected to be included in the 2019 Rijswijk Textile Biennial at the Museum Rijswijk in Rijswijk, Holland. The exhibition will run from June 18 to October 6, 2019. This will be the sixth time the museum has held this international exhibition of textile art. For an impression of previous exhibitions, view the 2017 biennial exhibition here.
